Valves - Usually there are two types of valves in an engine - intake and exhaust valves. These are responsible to let air in so as to fuel and let air out air so as to exhaust. It should be noted that both these valves are closed during combustion and compression to ensure that the combustion chamber is sealed.

Spark Plug - This part is responsible to supply the spark necessary to ignite the fuel mixture so that the combustion can take place. It is necessary for the spark to happen at the right point of time to make sure that all the other mechanisms take place properly.

Piston - This is a cylindrical engine part that is made of metal. It moves up and down within the cylinder.

Piston rings - These are responsible for providing a sliding fasten between the outer and inner rim of the piston. The piston rings help in preventing air mixture. They also help in ruling out all chances of leakage of exhaust from the combustion chamber to the sump during the processes of combustion and compression. Another purpose of piston rings is not to let oil enter the combustion area.

Crankshaft - This engine part is accountable for turning the piston's up-and-down motion into a circular motion.

Connecting rod - This rod attaches the piston to the crankshaft. It is programmed to rotate in both the ends to facilitate the angle-change during the movement of piston and rotation of the crankshaft.

Sump - This part encircles the crankshaft. It contains an amount of oil that gets collected at the bottom of the sump.
